February's Resolution

So for January, I set the goal to keep my sink shiny, ala Fly Lady. I did pretty good - maybe 85%. I learned a few things over the month.
  • Routine, routine, routine. If I empty the dishwasher while the kids eat breakfast, and then load it all day long, it is ready to run right after dinner. Everything goes smoothly. If I don't get it emptied, everything falls apart.
  • If I forget to run it after dinner, everything falls apart.
  • If I don't wash whatever didn't fit in the dishwasher after dinner, everything falls apart.
In writing this, it sounds like I have a pretty tenuous hold on this goal, but in reality, it actually worked pretty well. It only takes me a couple minutes to unload the dishwasher, and if I get it done before the kids are done eating breakfast, they load their own dishes. And the hand washing after dinner is usually just a couple knives and pans that aren't dishwasher friendly anyways, so it's not like it's tons of extra work.

I am going to set a goal to maintain this habit for the month of February.

For February's goal, I am going to read my scriptures every day. Lately this has been hit or miss - some days I read a lot, other days I miss completely. So, my goal for February is to read every day (family scripture time doesn't count). I'm not going to commit to an amount of reading (in minutes or chapters or pages) right now. And I haven't decided when the best time to read is yet. Mornings are crazy, my daytime schedule varies so much, and by evening I am exhausted, so I'm still thinking about what will work best. But I know that I need to pick a consistent time since I thrive on routine. I'm going to take a few days to experiment. We'll see how it goes. Wish me luck!

  1. The suggestion that Amy Millet gave me has worked wonders...I don't ALLOW myself to get online until I've read my scriptures. Sometimes I don't get logged on until noon, but I know I've read my scriptures first. Try it. Let me know if it works for you too!

  2. Hey! I spotted you on Luci's blog! I hope you don't mind. Your family is adorable, the blog looks beautiful, and your scrapbook layouts are AMAZING! I'm totally the same with both dishes and scripture study- I just get so overwhelmed with everything! I have a hard time focusing on the things that just take a little time and make a huge difference with my sanity.
